I haven’t studied the Blackstone IPO, but let’s say you actually want to be in on the IPO. Usually there is one or a few brokerage companies creating the IPO. Companies like Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse, etc.
You need to have an account with one of those brokerage companies to get in. There may be a minimum purchase or first-come first-serve rules. These are never online transactions.
Sometimes, when the quantity of stocks shares to be sold is large and the brokerage company’s clients fail to buy enough, then the they will distribute blocks of shares to online brokerages. Then you can buy IPO shares with these little brokerages, with a phone call.
The standard option for most small investors, most of the time, is to forget about the actual IPO & try to buy shares on the open market on the first morning of trading.
