IPO shares are tough for individual investors to get their hands on. They’re usually reserved for institutional investors, the ones who make the investment banks the most money. This is a big part of the trouble they got in after the dot-com crash.
IPO’s are extremely hard to get a hold for the regular investor. The problem is the underwriters of the security will sell shares to institutional investors and accredited investors (people with high net worth) You could even put in a request to get an IPO, but that still doesn’t guarantee anything. If they sell all the shares by the time they get to you, you are out of luck.
Second note, companies like E*Trade and others (which sell the IPO’s) actually frown upon buying the IPO and the turning around and selling it within 30 days. Yeah, it sounds like everyone is getting rich quick off IPO’s, but unfortunately its only the rich getting richer.
Lastly, there are IPO’s everyday, many in fact. The problem is only a few are winners. You only hear about the ones that make people millions. Unfortunately IPOS can often fail and people lose their money. It will be easier to get into an IPO with a company that has small hype.
So contact a broker that deals with IPO’s, find out which IPO’s they will be a part of and do tons of research on the company. No one legally ever gets rich with no effort. If they do, the SEC will come callin eventually
EVERY THING THAT THE RICH CAN DO WILL MAKE BIG MONEY OVER NIGHT. I T - W I L L - L O O S E - B I G over night. The reason you are kept out of the market is the chance of loss is great and the chance of gain may not occur.
If you have a Million Dollars, you can take 5 chances at $100,000 each to make $10,000,000. If you have $10,000 it would not be advisable to take 5 chances at $1,000 each to make $100,000. The reason is your living expenses could exceed the $5,000 you hold as a reserve. The first guy has a cushion of $500,000. That is why he can take the chance. IN THIS EXAMPLE REMEMBER THAT YOU MAY LOOSE ALL 5 TIMES.
Contact the Investment Banker handling the IPO you are interested and open open a brokerage account with them with at least $1,000,000.00 and very nicely ask them for some shares.
If you are lucky they will sell you 1,000 shares.
