I’m a beginning investor, where online can I go to buy shares of the Visa IPO?

Frederica asks:
I would prefer an online broker with no account minimum to open. Thanks for the info in advance. Also is VISA going ahead with the offering today?

The offering is already oversubscribed as far as I know which means that you can’t get in on it.
However I would ask WHY do you want in on the IPO?
If you believe strongly in the stock, then it will be available in the open market withing minutes of the IPO.
If you are just looking to cash in on what has been widely rumored to be an underpriced offering, I’m afraid your chances are slim. There are thousands of folks who have heard that rumor. Brokerage firms that get a piece of the IPO tend to have lists of preferred clients that get first crack at such offerings.
As to when the IPO will occur… I’d heard that it would be later in the week, possibly Wednesday but it may be moved up if Goldman and Visa think it wise.
An alternative to V might be BA. I’ve heard that a number of folks are selling BA in order to raise capital to get in on the V IPO. That would tend to make it undervalued and it should correct after the hoopla of the IPO dies down.
