It is frustrating to stand-by and wait for an attractive technology start-up to go public; recently lots of cool “green” companies have postponed or cancelled IPOs they had announced, even as venture capitalists continue to fund them. Sorry I don’t know about Nanosolar, but you could consider other public compaines in the thin film solar biz, First solar and Energy Conversion Devices. The field is getting crowded and there are more waiting in the wings, like Ava in Colorado. Hopefully the technology will be widely deployed in time to make a dent in climate change.
Considering that the Dow is tanking at the moment “right now” probably wouldn’t be a good time. Even more importantly is the *reason* companies do IPOs: to generate new capital for expansion. Nanosolar got #30 Million in private investments last year and they have commercial customers crawling out the baseboard trying to buy their product. They’re still tweaking their San Mateo plant and working the bugs out of their German plant; they have enough on their plate w/o expanding and all the funding they need through probably 2012. Don’t look for an IPO before then because they’re good, thank you.
